Maryland Delinquency Services Summary
Maryland is a centralized state. The Maryland Department of Juvenile Services (DJS) administers detention, delinquency intake, predisposition investigation, probation, correctional, and aftercare services. To facilitate the delivery of services, the state is divided into five geographic areas. An area usually covers several counties and is overseen by an Area Director. Supervisors manage DJS offices in each county (often, but not always, located in courthouses) and answer to the Area Director. Juvenile counselors in regional offices provide intake, probation, and aftercare supervision.
